The start of the start.
Beginnings of things take time for me. I’ve learned to feel them in my body, the wave of impulse that signifies the start. A gentle building of intensity to the point where staying in the liminal ‘before’ space isn’t possible. The inner knowing that action has to be taken.
So here’s my ‘action’. A first, much thought-about emergence.
My ‘why’ for being in this space has been slowly forming over the last months. I’ve been craving community, somewhere to rediscover freedom in my words and allow the ‘not knowingness’ of things to take the lead.
Whether you’re new to my work in this world or not, I offer you a heartfelt welcome to this new home.
I’m Sara, a coach, specialising in somatics & embodiment. I’m a little bit obsessed with how we create a loving relationship with the many facets of ourselves through the medium of the felt sense; the body.
I’m a movement practitioner and often find the way home to myself through the relationship between my body and the outside world. I support other people to do that too.
My coaching work centres around gentleness, ease and enjoyment as the cornerstones to change. An antidote to the ‘harder, faster, more’ message that’s drummed into us from birth and is so hard to ignore.
Our current world focuses hard on hyper-individualism and tells us to separate from ourselves and each other from an early age. We’re encouraged to sit still, stay small and view ourselves as a sum of parts.
Because of this we often move through the world disconnected and disembodied, unsure of the space we can take up.
The structures we live inside of have us thinking that we have to earn feeling good and achieve certain standards to be worthy. But the body doesn't speak in the language of force and quantifiable metrics.
Reclaiming home is an invitation to reconsider the relationship you have between your body and the wider world.
Some things I believe to be true:
- You deserve to feel at home in your body
- Movement that's joyful, nourishing, pleasurable and affirming is the birthright of all beings with bodies.
- Connecting to the ecosystem of our body can bring us back into right relationship with community, nature and the numinous.
- Through this relationship we can reaffirm our boundaries, self worth, values and question the shapes we take up in the world.
- Nurturing a relationship with your body as your guide can help to more clearly define the creation of a future that we want to live in.
My hope is for this space to be a call for togetherness.
A slow, steady & gentle revolution where we remember the symbiotic support that already exists between us. A place to rediscover trust in our relationship with our bodies, ourselves and each other.
I’d love this home to create the space for us to practice somatic skills together that relate to what we might be navigating both personally and collectively.
The practices I’ll share don’t require any specific experience and are designed to be accessible to all bodies. Everyone is welcome here.
This space is intended to be a guide home in support of:
- Unlearning the narrative that our bodies are something we need to control
- Relearning to trust your instincts and impulses
- Unlearning the narrative that you have to push past internal resistance (to rest, do, be)
- Relearning how to listen to and speak the language of your body
Finally …
Returning to ourselves isn’t always easy but there is ease here; in remembering how to soften into the support of gravity, the earth, community and our own bodies.
Great possibility exists when we remember that our softness isn’t coupled with weakness, but is strong, like the path of river water is strong, like our bones are strong.
Welcome home, I’m so glad you’re here.
